Overview of dual boot setup

  • Disable fast boot in windows
  • Install ubuntu
  • BIOS setup

Disable fast boot in windows

  • Type Control Panel in the search box.
  • Click Control Panel.
  • Click Power Options.
  • Click Choose what the power buttons do.
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  • Scroll down to Shutdown settings and uncheck Turn on fast startup.
  • Click Save changes.

Install Ubuntu

Create Bootable USB installation disk on:


  • Start PowerISO (v6.5 or newer version, download here).
  • Insert the USB drive you intend to boot from.
  • Choose the menu “Tools > Create Bootable USB Drive”. …
  • In “Create Bootable USB Drive” dialog, click “…” button to open the iso file of Windows operating system.


  • Start the Startup Disk Creator from the Dash or usb-creator-gtk from the shell.
  • Choose the source disk image (the downloaded ISO file) and the disk to use and click Make Startup Disk.

Start installation

  • Based on the device, you need configure your machine to boot from USB drive.
  • Press f2 or your device specific key to configure boot priority.
  • Reboot and start the ubuntu installer.
  • Follow the steps.

Setup Bootmanager in windows

  • Once installation is complete, reboot the system to Windows.
  • Open command prompt as admin and run the following command:
bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi

BIOS Setup

  • Enter your bios by pressing f10 or your device specific key.
  • Go to system configuration
  • Disable Secure Boot
  • And in UEFI boot order, set Ubuntu to be the first entry. Select Ubuntu entry and use f6 to bring it to top. Save this using f10.
  • Now save all configuration changes by pressing f10.
